Kudiyattum as a classical traditional art form has been for a closed group.‘The theatre of the Nangiar’s which can boast of an unbroken tradition of performing practice from the times of the Natyashastras. Each Sanskrit verse of the play is elaborated in the mute through eloquent language of gestures .’
I would like to quote the example of the ‘The country clean up project, “Lets do it”. The country was successful in clearing the garbage of their whole country in one day. Albeit after planning for three years. In the youtube video they illustrate the steps they took to make it happen.
1.Team Building
2. Engaging partners
3.Mapping of resources.
4.Communication
5.Registration.
In the context of our cultural heritage we don’t have to throw something out but imbibe this in.
An active team building is necessary. It needs to involve a group of young net savvy technicians and sensitive artists who believe it has to be done.
Our next step would be to rope in Engaging partners. These groups will help with resources such as staff, technical equipment. It would be very necessary to also rope in mass media to give free space.
3. Mapping of resources. Proving google earth and freeware to the volunteers we map the resources.
4 Communication In school and colleges
5 Creation of learning spaces virtual and monthly meetings to experience, analyze and debate traditional art forms.
Proposal to revive Kudiyattum in new learning spaces.
1 Select a text which students of standard level can understand. E.g. Krishna’s
2. Involve the Chinmaya mission to have chanting sessions with the students on the text. No student is forced for it. The whole to particular method is utilized.
To accomplish that each learner curious about art can reach information about the form, artists and drink in the experience.
3.The student is an artist. Thus the student/artist creates an art form of their choice in learning and experiencing the art form. (The student is encouraged to express their learning through mime, paint, embroidery, collage, video, podcasts, blog, wiki post, interview, dialogue, debate. Each is documented online. Collaborative or individual efforts are encouraged according to student comfort level. Presentation and feedback is encouraged online.
4.The student views the senior artist's performance. A lively discussion ensues, as the student and artist have put time to interpret the art form. The student and artist create a learning environment and an exchange of memories.
5.The common observer/teacher/facilitator makes connections of this experience to other concepts across other subjects. The students documented ideas online allows them to revisit their thoughts as they grow older and continues the discussion for other nomads with similar interests.
